USA to provide $5 million for development of Open Computer Center in Sarov

Open Computer Center created in the framework of the program Closed Cities initiated by the Gore-Chernomyrdin commission has recently been opened in Sarov (former Arzamas-16). According to the Center's director Boris Voronin, his organization is a division of All Russian Institute of Experimental Physics and it will specialize in the development of civil software ordered both by Russian and foreign customers. He says under the terms of the agreement the American side will allocate about $5 million for the development of the center within the next five years. If the Open Computer Center project proves to be a success another center will probably be opened in Snezhinsk.
