Sun Microsystems announces Solaris 8

Sun Microsystems has announced in Moscow the full version of the OS Solaris 8. According to Sun Microsystems director in Russia and the CIS, the new operating system will become available in Russia on February 28 through his company’s partners – IBS, CHS-Verysell, IT, Ankey, Roy International and others. While the software itself will be free, the users will have to pay for media (16 compact disks) and technical support (about $93). The bundle also includes other products – iPlanet (e-commerce solution), Oracle (with a developers license) and a number of other applications. At an extra cost, a buyer can order a user manual ($143) or full technical documentation (about $1,500). The new OS can also be downloaded from Sun Microsystems Web site.
