Platinum completes Vympelcom project

Platinum E.C.E., the distributor of Epicor Software in Russia has announced that it has completed a project to implement its Platinum SQL system at the mobile telephone company Vympelcom. According to Platinum E.C.E. consulting director Elena Afanasieva, the cellular operator did not hold a tender, although it considered purchasing SAP and Baan solutions. She says one of the reasons for opting for the system from Epicor Software was probably the fact that the customer had already installed Platinum for DOS in 1996. The contract had been signed in December 1998 and the maintenance in test mode was started in August. The system was implemented on 35 workplaces, including 20 in the accounting department, 10 in finance and contract department, and five in other departments. Next year Platinum E.C.E. plans to install the system on about 100 workplaces at a number of Moscow-based subsidiaries of Vympelcom. In the future the customer also intends to purchase additional modules, create an interface between the new system and the warehouse automation system being used at its retail stores, introduce GAAP accounting and implement Platinum SQL at its regional branches.
