Central Bank reports Y2K readiness

According to deputy head of clearing systems division of information systems department of the Central Bank Sergey Siryk, his bank tested all its regional branches for Y2K readiness. He says the bank has checked 98 percent of its regional clearing centers and in general its systems proved to be Y2K compatible with a few insignificant exceptions on software level which have already been resolved. The remaining 2 percent are to be tested on October 27. Moreover, the board of directors of the Central Bank has made a decision to prohibit any changes in its software from November 1, 1999 until March 15, 2000 with the exception of emergency situations when such changes are permitted by the bank's chairman. At the same time, the Central Bank warns that other banks which don't report their Y2K readiness by the end of the year will be switched off from its electronic payments system from January 1, 2000.
