Microsoft to ship Windows 2000 in Russia Without 128-bit Encryption
The Russian office of Microsoft has announced that localized versions of Windows 2000 Professional and Windows 2000 Servers will become available in May or June. At the moment, the vendor has no plans to localize Windows 2000 Advanced Server. End user prices for the new OS will be determined by local partners of Microsoft. The company also clarified data encryption issues with the new software. According to Microsoft director in Russia Olga Dergunova, 128-bit encryption algorithms will be extracted from the versions of Windows 2000 to be sold in Russia. However, negotiating with the Federal Agency for Governmental Communications and Information to find a better solution to the problem are still underway.
