Lucent Technologies announces new wireless product

Lucent Technologies has presented in Moscow a new platform for routing traffic in wireless networks and wireless Internet access. Called WaveAccess Office Router, the platform is based on the wireless network adapter WaveLAN Turbo 11 (up to 11 mbps) and the bridge WavePoint II. The sales of the hardware part of WaveAccess Office Router in Russia are performed through Diamond Communications and CompTek, while its software component is not available yet. According to CompTek technical director Petr Kochegarov, delays in providing software for new hardware platforms is a major problem. The same happened to WaveLAN IEEE 802.11 (a network card, working at up to 2 mbps) and WaveLAN Turbo (predecessor of WaveLAN Turbo 11). The WaveCampus software for the latter had been released so late that CompTek had failed to sell a single WaveLAN Turbo unit until they were phased out. Moreover, WaveCampus is incompatible with WaveLAN Turbo 11, he says.
