Free Solaris may face customs problems

Sun Microsystems has launched a marketing program called Free Solaris. The initiative calls for a free distribution of the operating system Solaris 8 in different countries, including Russia and the CIS. According to marketing manager of Moscow office of Sun Microsystems Vera Gurova, the free distribution in Russia may face difficulties, related, for example, to the need to pay customs duties for this software. She says now the question of who will cover importation expenses – the vendor or Solaris users – is being solved. In addition, Sun Microsystems has not decided yet which of its partners will take part in the program in Russia.
