Canon fails to meet increased demand for consumables

NAK Microware has announced the results of a marketing program that was launched to promote Canon consumables in Russia. The dealers' performance was evaluated in two nominations - procurement volumes and product range - and the winners were Moscow-based Infotech and TTL respectively. The distributor reports that, as a result of the program, its sales of Canon consumables grew by 15 percent, compared with Summer 1998, although, initially the company planned a 25 percent increase. According to NAK Microware general director Nikolay Krechet, the initial goal was not reached due to mistakes made by both his company and Canon which was unable to provide the necessary amount of some products at its warehouse in Finland. Other Canon partners in Russia also reported problems. Ergodata product manager Anvar Davletshin says this Autumn had difficulties with supplying some very popular products, particularly, cartridges for copiers and ink-jet printers. In fact, similar problems were also experienced by some other vendors who had not expected such a quick recovery of the Russian market, he adds. Dealer manager of the Russian office of Canon Yulia Wilke confirms the above statements and says all the problems connected with the lack of products at her company's Finnish warehouse will be solved early next year.
