Elbrus Group announces plans
Elbrus group of companies has held a press conference on the Group’s activities. According to the group's head Boris Babayan, Elbrus is currently looking for about $60 million to create working prototypes of the company’s E2K processor. According to Vladimir Zamay of investment bank FlemingUCB, his bank has identified several potential strategic investors for the E2K project. Negotiations with them are planned for the beginning of next year. If enough money is raised, the creation of the first working devices based on E2K is predicted to take three years. Strategic investors will get "a share in the intellectual property of the Russian company", Mr. Zamay says. Elbrus has also created a SPARC-compatible processor, version V8. Currently the company is testing a workstation based on this processor. The project is being carried out to an order of the Russian government which plans to use the processor in some strategic industries, such as aircraft engineering and satellite navigation. According to general director of Elbrus group Alexander Kim, the first samples of the processors were made abroad though the plan is to start their production at a new enterprise in Russia next year. The company also announced that the company is developing an enterprise management system called Elbrus-Enterprise. The product is a module-based system, capable of supporting accounting, human resources, warehousing, sales, and other processes.
