TMK holds “Technical progress in the production and utilization of pipes for the oil-and-gas industry” conference in London

TMK held the VIII “Technical progress in the production and utilization of pipes for the oil-and-gas industry” scientific practical conference, which took place on 22 May 2006 in London (UK). The conference was attended by representatives of the largest companies in the oil-and-gas complex of Russia and the CIS – Gazprom, TNK-BP, Surgutneftegaz, Lukoil, Slavneft, Geotransgaz, Kyrgyzneftgaz, foreign analysts, employees of the leading scientific-research institutes in the oil-and-gas and pipe industries, and journalists.

On opening the conference, TMK General Director Konstantin Semerikov remarked that today TMK as a company is able to react promptly to new demands. The Company’s orientation towards implementing the very latest techniques in metallurgical production is a sound base for TMK’s further development,” underlined Konstantin Semerikov.

In the words of Trade House TMK General Director Vladimir Oborsky, the key principle in the Company’s activity was and remains its customer-oriented approach: systematic work is being conducted at TMK enterprises to enhance production with provision for new technologies and customer requirements.

The conference was dedicated to a wide range of issues – the development of technologies, production, the use of pipe products in the oil-and-gas complex, TMK’s investment activity, the results of implementing the programme of scientific-research cooperation between Gazprom and TMK, the prospects for development in the production of large-diameter spiral-seamed pipes, the formation of a Russian normative basis for pipe production according to international standards, and the globalization of the oil-and-gas industry.

John Westwood, Chief Managing Director of the analytical company Douglas-Westwood, presented analysis of factors influencing the growth of world prices for oil and gas. In the opinion of Kenneth MacKellar, Managing Director of Deloitte & Touche, the prospects for development in the world pipe industry are connected primarily with the exploitation of shelf deposits.

Also within the framework of the conference, George Sinclair, representative of Salym Petroleum Development N.V., awarded an honorary diploma to Konstantin Semerikov for the large contribution to the realization of the Salym project for the supply of high-quality pipe products to the West-Salym deposit within the stipulated deadlines.

The “Technical progress in the production and utilization of pipes for the oil-and-gas industry” conference is held by TMK on an annual basis and enables discussion of a wide range of issues, the exchange of opinions and information and the establishment of new partner contacts.
