Samara-based MobiCom, specializing in the development of mobile communications equipment, has delivered its own NMT-450 base station KBS-24 to Samara Cellular Network. According to mobiCom chief engineer Mikhail Khusainov, the base station supports up to 700 radio channels and it was designed to be used in areas with low population density as opposed to its imported counterparts, which are economically effective in densely populated areas. KBS-24 costs $60-80 thousand. In the meantime, MobiCom continues the development, planning to present an NMT-450 base station for 1,400 channels and a GSM base station for 3,000 users later this year.
