In 2005 TMK adopted a growth strategy and formulated a strategic vision for its development for 2005-2015.

Strategic vision for TMK development

The strategic emphasis is on the further development of production for the oil and gas sectors.

Strategic vision for seamless business

  • Growing the OCTG business will require further development of finishing operations, downstream services and in-house R&D facilities
  • Growing the industrial seamless pipe business will require TMK to master the unique challenges of serving this sector
  • Control of and self-sufficiency in steelmaking is one of the key competitive advantages in seamless pipe production
  •  Acquiring a supplier of steelmaking raw materials will enable TMK to control availability, quality, and cost of supply
  • TMK's commercial presence will be enhanced by a network of local sales offices, support facilities, and overseas manufacturing

  • Leading supplier to the global oil and gas industry, through high-quality low-cost production in Russia coupled with a global network of strategically-located distribution, service and finishing facilities
  • Single source of supply for the complete range of seamless pipes, enhanced by the provision of innovative solutions and supply-chain management services for oil and gas industry customers

Strategy statement for the industrial seamless pipe business

“TMK: A strong player in the production of industrial seamless pipes for the pan-European market”

  • Low-cost supplier of quality industrial seamless pipe across the CIS and Europe
  • Production in Russia for the CIS and export markets coupled with production in European Union accession countries for European markets
  • Development of the welded business will be more controlled, focusing on opportunities to grow without significant investment.

Strategic vision for welded business

  • Growth of the large diameter transmission pipe business will be supported by an expansion of product mix through adding principally new production lines coupled with subsequent focused investments in existing facilities
  • The small diameter infrastructure welded tubes business will be protected by optimal and effective use of existing assets.
  • Control of feedstock supply is important and TMK will strengthen long-term relationships with key suppliers.
  • Sales of large diameter welded products will be concentrated in Russia, CIS, and the Caspian region.
  • Sales of infrastructure welded products will be concentrated in Russia and nearby traditional markets.

“TMK: A strong player in the production of large diameter transmission pipes for the CIS gas and oil pipeline sector”

  • Regional supplier of large diameter welded pipes supporting the growth and development of the gas and oil pipeline network in Russia, CIS, and the Caspian region
  • Collaboration with an upstream partner to ensure reliable and cost-effective supply for large-scale pipeline projects
  • TMK’s main focus in infrastructure welded sector will be on improving operational efficiencies and expanding the product mix.

Based on TMK’s market position and to comply with the strategic vision of Company’s development a route map has been prepared. The development path for TMK involves building on its natural strengths as a supplier to the oil and gas sector.
