PTT-Teleport increases ADSL coverage in Moscow

PTT-Teleport Moscow has started the second stage of a project to cover Moscow and its region with an ADSL network known as Tochka ru. During the previous phase, the company installed ADSL access equipment supplied by Orckit Communications at 80 telephone exchanges in Moscow. Within the next one or two months, PTT-Teleport will install ADSL equipment manufactured by Cisco Systems at another 20 exchanges in Moscow. The company hopes to cover the entire city in about a year when ADSL access nodes are installed on another 200 exchanges. At the same time, the operator is starting negotiations with Electrosviaz of the Moscow region regarding the development of a broadband Internet access network outside the capital.
