Minsviazi to license third-generation cellular communications

The Ministry of Communications and Information has announced that it is preparing a program for granting licenses for the provision of services supported by third-generation cellular systems. According to minister Leonid Reiman, the program will be ready by the end of this year or early next year. The program is being developed in cooperation with Association of third-generation networks, headed by first deputy general director of Interregional Transit Telecom Alexander Krupnov. The association was created in January this year by Worth-West GSM, KB Impulse and Delta Telecom. The association will work both on regulatory issues and on the development of pilot WCDMA zones in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
