Illegal CD manufacturer closed down in Zelenograd

The State Customs Committee and the Federal Security Service have taken an anti-piracy raid aimed at a manufacturer of illegal compact discs. Previously such actions were targeted at distributors. The raid was taken simultaneously in Zelenograd (Moscow region) and on the Russian-Belorus border where a truck with 13,000 CDs was arrested. The products were manufactured at the Zelenograd-based factory Component, specializing in computer chips for the military. The pirates' production line was installed in a room leased by a company called Disk-press MSK from Component. According to the authorities, the company is owned by a Bulgarian citizen. The production line was purchased in the Czech republic for about $1 million and illegally imported into Russia. Its production capacity was from 5,000 to 20,000 CDs a day, which then were sold to distributors at $0.4 per disk. The raid organizers found at the factory and confiscated 130,000 disks prepared for sale.
