Antimonopoly ministry holds hearings on Gostelecom case

In early September the Russian Ministry of Antimonopoly Policy held hearings on a case against the State Committee for Telecommunications (Gostelecom). The reason for the case was a decree issued by Gostelecom in April 1999 concerning the rules covering the use of IS-95 subscriber equipment on public telephone networks. The decree caused complaints of the Association of CDMA operators and individual companies working in this standard, which assert that the document contradicts existing laws covering consumers and communications.
