Ministry of Emergency Situations to build two automated systems

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation is carrying out two large scale projects to upgrade an existing system and to create a uniform automated dispatch service. The first system will be based on Oracle DBMS on the federal level and MS SQL on lower levels. The ministry decided to use a system from Moscow based Vest for automated document management. The project also calls for the upgrade of the system's hardware platform. The database servers will probably be supplied by Sun Microsystems, networking hardware by Motorola, PCs and servers by Compaq and Hewlett-Packard. The second project is to create a similar application to the US 911 service. Such a system is now being created in Moscow to unite all of the city's 26 dispatch services. The hardware is being supplied by Hewlett-Packard and Lucent Technologies. Telecommunications channels are provided by MTU-Inform. The project in Moscow is scheduled for completion by the year 2002 and is valued at about $4 million. Similar projects are already underway in Kursk and Krasnoyarsk.
