Russian government approves draft law on electronic digital signature
A Russian law on digital signature edged closer to the statute book this
week. The government of the Russian Federation has approved the draft law on
electronic digital signature developed by the Ministry of Communications and
Information, the Federal Agency for Governmental Communications and
Information, the State Technical Commission, the Ministry of Justice and
other interested bodies. Among other things the draft law calls for
certificates of digital signature keys to be issued by licensed
certification centers, it outlines the requirements necessary for these
licenses to be issued, it describes the workings of a state run registry of
certificates. The draft law must now be approved by the State Duma.
