The Russian Internet shop Ozon, owned by ru-Net Holdings, has announced some
results of its work in 2000 and outlined plans for this year. The company
reported total revenues of $1.3 million, and a growth of monthly orders from
3,000 in January to 10,000 in December. According to ru-Net Holdings general
director Jason Downes, by November this year his company expects Ozon to
become profitable and its annual revenue to reach $5 million. In 2001,
ru-Net Holdings intends to invest $1 million, with about 30 percent of the
money to be spent on the information system upgrade, and another 15
percent - on advertising. Plans for this year also include the expansion of
the Ozon product list, and marketing programs for repeat customers. Ozon
also intends to shorten delivery times by ceasing to use the Russian
national postal system. Currently the shop is negotiating with two
alternative postal operators, which are expected to deliver Ozon product
outside of Moscow and St. Petersburg.
