Sputnik Group suspends one of its Internet projects
Sputnik Technologies, a member of the Sputnik Group, has suspended launch an
Internet portal project. The project was started last October, with plans
to launch the portal capable of providing online insurance, brokerage and
banking services in January. According to the Sputnik Group PR manager Oleg
Sapozhnikov, his company has postponed the project, rather than cancelled it
completely. A probable reanimation date for the project is autumn 2001.
The company says that the decision taken due to the underdevelopment of the
Russian securities market. "Today, there is no demand for Internet services
in the financial market, except the market for online insurance. As soon as
the demand for investment banking services starts growing we'll be able to
reanimate our project", he says. Mr. Sapozhnikov says that his company did
not layoff any staff though a number of employees did quit. One of them was
accounts manager Alexey Ivanov. According to Mr. Ivanov, after the decision
to postpone the project was announced, "all employees responsible for the
creation of the portal's content had to leave the company".
