War in Central Asia will not slow the pace of PC market growth, says IDC

According to IDC despite the war in Afghanistan, the PC market in Central Asia will grow by 28 percent in 2001. ‘IDC does not believe that the current conflict will have an adverse effect on the IT markets of this region’, says IDC analyst for the Central Asia region Andrey Verkhovod. ‘In fact as a result of these troubles the flow of foreign investment into these countries is more likely to increase - and this will mostly likely have a positive effect on these PC markets.’ The recently published IDC report The Personal Computer Markets of Central Asia, 2000-2005 reveals that in 2000 a total of 101k PCs were sold in the countries of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) for a value of $97 million. This is forecast to reach 130k units in 2001.
